Mystfell is an online virtual pet adoption site founded by me, Rachel Racanelli, and Jenni Buckley. Jenni acts as site manager, coder, promoter, and writer, and I act as head artist and art director. Between the two of us, we concept pets, quests, and ideas. Erin Pickering and Kate Russell are two artists currently helping on the project on concept and environment. All the art below belongs to Rachel Racanelli, mua.

This project is still in progress and from Nov. 2013 to approx. May 2014 it will be my focus for my senior thesis at Ringling college of art and design.
The primary goal of the site is pet adoption, followed by in-browser games and questing to obtain special pets and pet colors. Follow up features will include aging of the pet, and player interaction in the forums.
In the future, depending on resources, we may offer up customizable avatar characters called Mystians, based on a race I've dubbed 'hellion'. They'll be able to choose between a winged version or a wingless version, choosing between a 'guardian' or a 'keeper'.
The main theme of the site is a fantasy version of celtic and megalithic art and culture.

Full grown dragons cannot be traded or sold, and the only way to acquire one is to either quest for an egg or happen across one.
First players find an egg, which hatches into the dragon below. The dragon remains this color and potions don't affect it. Potions only work when the dragon is completely mature.

This avatar will represent the player in Mystfell. They can choose between a Guardian or a Keeper (Winged or Wingless), and between two interchangeable defaults sets. Red or green clothes, and two different hairstyles.
They can change their character in game by buying styles from an Appearance modifier. They select the name of the change they want, preview it in real time, and if they have the funds they can purchase it. This "unlocks" the theme and the player may switch between them at will.
Changes are applied via transparent png stacking, or pns swaps.

War broke out between Guardians and Keepers.
Guardians protect the realm.
Keepers care for the creatures of MystFell.
The war resulted in a exodus from their previous realm.
Creatures were previously spirits and have now become tangible beings.
Totem creatures maintain some spiritual ties/abilities.
Name the home realm?
----------
Words no longer held the same weight as they had in the past. Their meanings, depending on who spoke them, changed. Guardians, winged hellion who took an oath to protect those who inhabited the realm, began to look down on their wingless brethren. In turn, wingless hellion, known as Keepers, began to feel unappreciated by the Guardians and their duties to care for the creatures in the realm fell slack. Those neutral in these rivalries began to look for a place to start over. Those who tried to speak reason were cast aside and war erupted throughout the realm.
Difficult to decipher which side was winning, if any side was at all. Guardians and Keepers fought on both sides of the battle. It was hard to tell when it all started, but the end was clearly defined. The participants began to fall straight through the ground in their realm. A tear had formed beneath them, the weight of their hatred pulling them through and into a new realm.
It was confusion alone that ended the feud, as both sides stopped to look around in bewilderment. They spilled into an untouched and undying world. With them, the creatures of their realm began to fall through other holes born of the continued battle above them. It was then they came to an agreement. They could fight no longer. Destroying one realm was enough. To destroy another would be unforgivable. They affectionately call their new home MystFell. A reminder of how they got here and what they found when they landed.
